A program co-sponsored by Sen. Ken Horn (R-Frankenmuth) has successfully brought libraries into classrooms at Bridgeport-Spaulding Schools in Bridgeport.
“I've loved partnering with Dr. Michelson, Rep. Vanessa Guerra (D-Saginaw) and Nexteer Automotive to bring a classroom library to Bridgeport-Spaulding Schools,” Horn wrote on his Facebook page. “I'm excited to follow the progress how of this program is working as the new school year gets underway.”
The new project brings 700 books – worth about $1,700 in total – each to six elementary classrooms. New bookshelves to store the reading materials are also included.
The project is funded by a collaboration of local and state business and community organizations, and co-sponsored by a bipartisan group, including Horn.
By giving students easy access to a wide range of materials in their classroom, project creators hope to spark a life-long love of reading and learning in youngsters. Teachers are also given training on how best to encourage their students to use the new libraries to their fullest potential.
