Genesee County small businesses were given grants from the state to help relieve financial stress during the coronavirus pandemic.
The Michigan Small Business Relief Program gave $260,000 in state grants to 52 businesses in Flint and Genesee County to financially help them during the pandemic. The money for these grants was funded by the Flint and Genesee Chamber of Commerce. Each business received $5,000 in grants on April 3.
Flint and Genesee Chamber of Commerce CEO Tim Herman said almost 1,500 businesses applied for a grant.
“As you might expect, there was significant interest in the grant program,” Herman told M Live. “We also recognize that this (is) an extremely difficult time for businesses everywhere, so the goal was to get funds to businesses, fast.”
Now, the Chamber of Commerce will be reviewing and distributing loans for other small businesses, according to M Live. If small businesses don't receive a grant or loan, they can always apply for assistance from the U.S. Small Business Administration as well, Tyler Rossmaessler, director of economic development for the chamber, said.
