Sherman’s Lounge has been a staple for live and local entertainment in Flint for five decades, and now they are participating in the Moving Flint Forward program to update their bar.
With the Moving Flint Forward Grant, which is a $10,000 award, Sherman’s Lounge is expanding its kitchen and hiring more workers, according to the Flint & Genesee website.
“We were doing good pizzas, good food before the grant, but now it’s allowed us to go over that next step,” said Bruce Hardy, who owns Sherman’s Lounge with his brother. “It’s allowed us to hire from the community and employ more people.”
As for the grant service project, the business has selected a corner in the community that they will make more appealing and pleasant. The Moving Flint Forward program is a joint effort between General Motors and the Flint & Genessee Chamber of Commerce.
Sherman’s Lounge is one of 15 businesses that each received a $10,000 grant. There were more than 100 small businesses that inquired about or applied for the grants.
