Rep. Mike Mueller (R-Linden) is urging Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to do more to bring Michiganders back to work, according to Michigan House Republicans.
“I share the governor’s goal of keeping people safe and prioritizing the health of our state’s population,” Mueller said on the website. “I also have a goal to get the hundreds of struggling people in our communities back to work. There are still more industries that can return to work safely while adhering to physical-distancing protocols. I hope to see more restrictions lifted by the governor in the coming days and weeks.”
Mueller, along with several colleagues, created a bipartisan oversight committee to review the governor's current executive orders, as well as new ones. The committee would maintain checks and balances on the orders.
"This is a necessary oversight that ensures the voice of the people is a part of the conversation when it comes to how we address the constantly evolving situation,” Mueller said on Michigan House Republicans. “What makes our country so great is its system of checks and balances, and this committee will help better protect the interests of the people of Michigan.”
The committee, called The Joint Select Committee on the COVID-19 Pandemic, includes both legislators from the House and the Senate, for a total of five lawmakers. Mueller said that they will maintain key foundations for government in the state.
Mueller wants more to be done to help over one million state residents get back to work, and he agrees with the governor on her recent decision to relax some restrictions. He is glad the governor has decided to allow residents to travel freely between residences and properties, as well as relaxing restrictions on goods and services and outdoor activities.
