Cost of college went up for all students at the University of Michigan-Flint

In-state tuition and fees rose 1 percent for 2018-19 at the University of Michigan-Flint, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Michigan residents paid $11,304 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $462 more than the $10,842 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 95.2 percent more than residents this year, or $22,065. Their price tag grew 4.3 percent from $21,165 in 2017-18.

About 99 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Michigan residents. And about 1 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 96 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 558 students received grants or scholarships totaling $4.7 million and 350 students took out student loans totaling more than $2.1 million.

Including all undergraduates (7,532), 3,690 students used grants or scholarships totaling $26.8 million, and 3,344 students took out $24.9 million in federal student loans.
