Greater Durand Area Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Sept 22.
The City of Durand was recently awarded a grant from Consumer's Energy for 25 trees to be planted on the southside of the City. This is the second year the city had received the grant.
The City is asking residents to participate in an “Adopt A Tree" program. The trees will be planted by DPW between the sidewalk and the curb before the end of October.
"I realize that the trees are planted on the public byway, but people often look at this area as their lawn," Andrew Bisaha, Director of Public Works.
Residents who adopt a tree will be asked to help water and maintain the new plantings.
'The more water and care these trees have, the better chance they have for survival." commented Bisaha.
Tree species will depend on nursery availability and Consumer's “Right Tree in the Right Place" guidelines.
If you are interested in "Adopt a Tree" contact Bisaha at abisaha@durandmi.com Please leave your name, address and how many trees you would like to adopt.
