When Jeff Stutts, co-owner of Ace Hardware, purchased the Durand Rotary Fire Engine, he had hopes it would fit in the area near the Ace Sign, It did not. The store displayed the engine in various locations outside, but during the winter months it was stored in the green house.
Stutts and Xak Zdunic, owner of XYZ Auction Services, discussed auctioning off the fire truck with proceeds to benefit the Beautification Program.
The live auction was held on April 28. The bidding was competitive. The final price was over $5,000.00 with Zdunic donating all fees to bring the total to $5250.00.
"Jeff and Xak were committed to our program from the start,' said Councilman Jeff Brands, a founder of the Beautification Committee. " Because of their generosity, the committee will be able to expand the program and complete the alley in memory of Patti Matejewski. We are all incredibly grateful".
