State Rep. David Martin | Michigan House Republicans
State Rep. David Martin has introduced legislation aimed at reducing regulatory requirements in Michigan. The bill is part of a broader bipartisan initiative to make living and working in the state more affordable.
Earlier this year, House Republicans announced the Red Tape Reduction Initiative, which seeks to address issues related to occupational licensing and permitting processes. In response, the House Rules Committee has worked on measures intended to simplify these systems. This week, over 50 bills were introduced as part of the initial phase of this effort.
“Michigan workers face too many needless hoops, fees, and rules that drive up costs and make it harder to succeed,” Martin said. “When professionals have to spend more time filling out paperwork and paying fees, that’s time and money taken away from serving patients, building homes, and running small businesses. Cutting through red tape will help lower costs for families, create more opportunities for workers, and keep our state competitive.”
Martin’s proposal, House Bill 4897, would streamline the licensing process for boiler operators by reducing the number of license classifications required. The intention is to remove unnecessary complexity while still maintaining safety standards for small businesses providing these services.
The bill has been sent to the House Regulatory Reform Committee for review.
