FLINT & GENESEE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE: Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce Statement

Gov

Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on March 16.

The following statement should be attributed to Tim Herman, CEO of the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce regarding Gov. Whitmer’s executive order to cease in-dining service at restaurants, cafes, coffee houses, bars, taverns, brewpubs, distilleries and clubs. The order also includes movie theaters, indoor and outdoor performance venues, gymnasiums, fitness centers, recreation centers, indoor sports facilities, indoor exercise facilities, exercise studios, spas and casinos:

Statement

The Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce fully supports Gov. Whitmer’s decision to close businesses and organizations where people gather in larger groups. This is a necessary step that will help protect the public’s health by lowering the risk of the virus spreading in our community. Protecting the public’s health must be our number one priority.

At this time, we cannot quantify the financial impact of this aggressive action on local establishments; however, we believe it is likely to be significant, depending on its duration.

The Chamber is working to support our members — restaurants, stores, shops and offices — by sharing timely information about the mitigation efforts underway as well as the resources that will be available to assist businesses with financial recovery.
