DAVENPORT UNIVERSITY-FLINT LOCATION: Davenport recognized as one of Michigan’s Gold-Level Veteran-Friendly Schools.

Z

Davenport University-Flint Location issued the following announcement on May 4.

Davenport University has long been committed to supporting and enabling the success of veterans. In fact, the mission of Davenport’s Military and Veteran Services is to provide a path of minimal resistance for service members, veterans and their dependents to reach their educational and career goals.

That’s why Davenport’s admissions representatives, advisors and certifying officials work together to ensure that students receive accurate and comprehensive guidance surrounding the university process from application to graduation and beyond.

Davenport University’s dedication to carrying out this mission in service of our veterans and their families has been recognized by the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA) for the 2019-2020 academic year – the fifth consecutive year being honored with this recognition.

Achieving gold-level status as one of Michigan’s Veteran-Friendly Schools

For our commitment to supporting the needs of student veterans and their dependents, Davenport has been recognized as a gold-level member of Michigan’s Veteran-Friendly School program. Gold-level status is achieved by meeting six or more of the program criteria listed below. Davenport’s efforts to support and serve veterans meet all seven criteria.

Established process for identification of current student veterans

Veteran-specific website at https://www.davenport.edu/veterans

Active student-operated veterans club or association – Student Veterans of America

Veteran-specific career services, resources, advising and/or outcome monitoring

On-campus veteran’s coordinator and/or designated staff point of contact

System to evaluate and award credit based on prior military training and experience

Monitoring and evaluation of student veteran academic retention, transfer and graduation rates

Davenport also provides 100 percent military benefit participation in the V.A. GI Bill®, Yellow Ribbon, Federal Tuition Assistance and Michigan National Guard State Tuition Assistance programs. In addition, we offer 20 percent tuition discounts to actively serving members of the armed forces, retirees, veterans with discharges other than “dishonorable,” their partners and their dependents up to age 24.

In addition to the above, Davenport University takes its students’ prior military experience and turns it into the most academic credits possible. In fact, the average military student receives an average of 28 credits toward their degree for their real-life, military training and experience as well as any Military Occupational Safety (MOS) courses they may have taken.
