It’s that time of year again, when the leaves fall and bags line the city streets as residents try to get those pesky leaves out of the way before they are buried in snow.
Residents of Flint are being reminded that they have until Thanksgiving to get their yard waste gathered up and bagged up if they want to have it hauled away, according to the City of Flint's website. Leaf bag collection will end after Thanksgiving week.
To have yard waste collected by the city, residents must place it in approved bags along the curb with their regular household waste on their usual collection days.
“This is a beautiful time of year, but please remember to bag all your leaves to keep our streets safe and functional,” Mayor Sheldon Neeley said, according to the City of Flint website.
In addition to getting leaves off lawns, Neeley said that the collection of yard waste also protects against flooding by preventing yard waste from clogging up storm drains. Due to those concerns, anyone caught raking leaves into the street within the city of Flint could face a citation.

Those who have any questions about trash or yard waste pick up or disposal can reach out to the city at 810-410-1134. The city also reminded residents that the same phone number can be used by anyone wishing to report a problem involving trash or yard waste.
Anyone who misses the final pickup for yard waste can drop off their remaining yard waste for a fee at Country Oaks Landscape Supply, 3218 E. Atherton Road in Burton, according to the release. The fee per pickup truck load is $5, and residents are advised to call 810-743-1920 before making the trip to confirm.
