State Rep. David W. Martin (R-Davison) attended a groundbreaking event in Davison this week to mark the start of a new broadband expansion project. The event, held on Monday and hosted by Peninsula Fiber Network and 123NET, signals the launch of an effort to increase high-speed internet access throughout Genesee County.

The broadband initiative aims to provide reliable and affordable internet service to more homes and businesses in the area. This project is part of a larger statewide plan focused on reducing the digital divide and ensuring that all Michigan residents have access to necessary technology for economic participation.

“Access to high-speed internet is no longer a luxury, it is a necessity,” said Martin. “Expanding broadband means better opportunities for our students, stronger support for our small businesses, and more access to essential services like healthcare and job training. I am proud to support projects like this that are delivering real results for our constituents at a responsible cost.”

The $87 million fiber optic broadband expansion will run between Port Huron and Flint, with an estimated completion time of about 18 months. The infrastructure will connect over 2,500 homes and businesses in Lapeer, Macomb, St. Clair, and Genesee counties through local providers. This effort joins two other ongoing expansions serving Northern Michigan and West Michigan; all three projects are scheduled for completion by June 2028.

Martin has consistently advocated for infrastructure improvements and rural connectivity during his tenure, focusing on helping thousands of state residents without dependable or affordable high-speed internet.

“Improving access to high-speed internet helps our economy, our workforce, our young people and more.,” Martin said. “It’s time we roll up our sleeves and get to work.”
