City of Linden issued the following announcement on July 9.
High rates of mosquitoes are happening now and APM is battling the little buggers. July is always peak season and recent heavy rains combined with the high temperatures created the perfect mosquito storm. Not only is APM fighting the skeeters, but also the weather is not being cooperative.
Keep in mind, crews cannot spray in rain, extremely high humidity or windy conditions. Therefore, crews are out fighting mosquitoes at every opportunity.
Looking back to late 2018, a long stretch of rain (3 to 12 inches over two weeks) caused mosquito populations to triple or maybe even quadruple. More rain means more standing water, which means more mosquitoes.
APM is asking residents to check their property for standing water and please empty anything collecting water. Contact APM to give permission to enter your property for closer spraying and have standing water treated. (810-766-9423) or visit to fill out the requests http://lindenmi.us/.../most-requested/mosquito-control.html
Residents can protect themselves and animals by applying mosquito repellent, eliminating standing water, and bringing animals indoors when mosquitoes are most active from early evening until after sunrise.
