City of Saginaw issued the following announcement on July 12.
“The city started heavy into blight elimination back in 2006. A big portion of our blight program is cleaning up our neighborhoods and cleaning up the city to increase values and make people want to come here and live here, work here and build here. Part of that is some environmental cleanup, writing up and following up on junk and debris and yards and junk vehicles.
We also have targeted areas through our federal block grant funds that are spent to tear down certain areas according to federal regulations in the block grant program. We also do demolitions for emergency situations which could arise from different causes that could be heavy winds, heavy snow, resulting from fires that can deteriorate a structure to the point that it needs to be torn down immediately for the safety of the public.
In order to do this, the city of Saginaw has to have under contract at least one licensed contractor to be able to tear these homes down and remove them and haul them away. Two vendors will be available for the next two years under contract with a third year option and they'll be available to take care of these demolitions and help us clean up the city.”
