Unique maintenance work on the Leroy Street bridge

Bridge(1000)

City of Fenton recently issued the following announcement.

The unique maintenance work on the Leroy Street bridge over the Shiawassee has drawn a lot of interest from visitors to the City of Fenton this week. Here’s what’s going on, and a roundup of other construction/traffic alerts and updates.

What’s going on at the bridge? So that they can perform bridge maintenance that includes surface repairs, asphalt approaches and sidewalk repairs, contractors have built a cofferdam, which is a temporary structure in a body of water that allows water to be pumped out.

In one photo you can see the water in the area of the cofferdam is at a lower level than the main, still-flowing river.

As the maintenance work continues, motorists can expect intermittent lane closures, though the bridge should never be completely closed.

Elsewhere in Fenton:

SILVER LAKE ROAD: We’d like to remind everyone that ALL BUSINESSES ARE OPEN AND ACCESSIBLE during construction.

NORTH LEROY: The right lane of northbound N. Leroy Street in front of the VG’s Plaza (north of Dauner Road) is currently closed for curb and asphalt repair. We will clarify the projected completion date soon either by updating this post or in a new post.

SCHOOL TREE REMOVAL: A contractor working to remove trees for Fenton Area Public Schools will be creating a partial lane closure on West Street between Mill Street and Caroline Street on Friday and Monday. A flagger will help direct traffic.
