City of Grand Ledge Police Department (GLPD) Detective, Kirk DeWitt received the inaugural Public Servant of the Year Award at the Grand Ledge Chamber of Commerce Annual Award Dinner on April 28, 2022. Detective DeWitt’s award was presented by the Grand Ledge Chamber of Commerce’s Executive Director, Amy Hoyes, and Grand Ledge Mayor Thom Sowle.
Additionally, Det. DeWitt received a Special Tribute congratulating him on the award and commemorating his dedication to public service signed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist, Senator Tom Barrett, and State Representative Angela Witwer.
Det. DeWitt began his career with the GLPD in 1990 as a part-time officer and was hired full-time in 2014. He was promoted to Detective in 2014 and now specializes in child abuse, Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM), and adult sexual assault investigations. Det. DeWitt has received advanced training in several different methods of victim, witness, and suspect interview techniques and is certified as a Forensic Interview Specialist. In addition, Det. DeWitt is instrumental in his promotion of the Small Talk Children’s Assessment Center in Eaton County, where victims of physical and sexual abuse are interviewed and offered therapy at no cost.
