Clifton Devereaux ran his ice cream parlor out of the Horton Block beginning in 1909. The two-story addition to the back of the building, which faced Caroline St, housed the post office for 20 years, and later the Independent.
Silbar says the Horton Block was purchased from the Horton heirs in August 1919 for $4,100.
