WASHINGTON—Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-08), member of the Ways and Means Committee’s Subcommittee on Trade, issued the following statement after the Biden administration announced a successful resolution of a Rapid Response Labor Mechanism petition against the Unique Fabricating facility, a Michigan-based company, in Santiago de Querétaro, Mexico:
“We must enforce trade deals for agreements like the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement to work properly. I fought to replace NAFTA with the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement to better support American workers. When we enforce our existing trade agreements, we can ensure that Michigan and American workers have a level playing field.
“I applaud the Biden administration and Ambassador Tai for holding companies, including Unique Fabricating, accountable for violating worker rights.
“As a member of the Ways and Means Committee’s Subcommittee on Trade, I will continue to work tirelessly to make sure we enforce this agreement and ensure that we stand up for workers in Mexico and the United States.”
