FOIA Request Sent to Genesee County Election Division Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Genesee County Election Division in Michigan on February 5, 2025. The request was made by us at Genesee News, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

In the request, we asked for records detailing all candidates running in the upcoming spring election. Specifically, we sought information including each candidate's first, middle, and last name; the office they are running for; the jurisdiction of that office; and their party affiliation.

Additionally, we requested all available contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.

As a media organization committed to transparency and holding public institutions accountable, access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. We believe that our role in disseminating information makes us eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act § 15.231 et seq.

We await a response from the Genesee County Election Division and look forward to sharing this important information with our readers.
