FLINT— Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-08) On May 26, announced new federal funding to expand mental health crisis services in Genesee County.

The federal grant, totaling $731,359, was awarded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to support the Genesee Health System as it works alongside community partners to provide better care for Michiganders experiencing acute mental health or substance abuse crises, including those who would not otherwise be able to afford it.

“Every Michigander deserves access to affordable health care, including mental health care. I am thrilled to announce this federal grant, which will improve crisis care in our community,” said Congressman Kildee. “In Congress, I will continue to bring federal resources home to better support Michiganders struggling with addiction and other mental health conditions.”

“We’d like to thank Congressman Kildee for his continued support of mental health services for the residents of Genesee County. This grant will allow us to expand mental health crisis services in our community. These services include mobile co-response teams with local law enforcement, improving coordination with the state and federal 988 system for crisis calls, and expanding our mobile crisis team to meet people where they are in the community when they are in need and providing appropriate follow-up after the crisis has been resolved,” said Danis Russell, CEO of Genesee Health System.

Congressman Kildee has secured key investments in affordable, high-quality mental health care in mid-Michigan through his Community Project Funding initiative, including $1 million for much-need repairs at New Paths’ substance use treatment and recovery facilities and $750,000 for the Greater Flint Health Coalition’s efforts to improve mental health crisis prevention and treatment in Genesee County.
