FLINT—Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-08) today announced new federal funding to expand access to health care and support services for mid-Michigan children.

The $200,000 federal grant, awarded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, will support Great Lakes Bay Health Centers’ (GLBHC’s) early childhood development screening program, which helps identify health issues among children ages zero to five and connect them to the preventative services they need.

“Every mid-Michigan child deserves the opportunity to live a healthy, successful life. That’s why I’m proud to support Great Lakes Bay Health Centers’ work to deliver high-quality care to mid-Michigan children at their most critical stage of development,” said Congressman Kildee. “In Congress, I will continue to fight to bring federal resources home to our children and their families.”

“Great Lakes Bay Health Centers is grateful for the support of Congressman Dan Kildee and the shared commitment toward improving the early childhood development screening program for the children of Saginaw County in Michigan. Screening plays an important role in assessing a child’s development and provides early detection so that supports for children experiencing delays for any number of reasons can be identified. GLBHC is looking forward to aligning its mission with meeting the unique needs of these children and their families,” said Lori Mulvaney, Director of Women’s Health at GLBHC.

Congressman Kildee has long-supported initiatives to improve outcomes for mid-Michigan children. Last month, Kildee announced over $30 million in new federal funding for early childhood education programs in mid-Michigan. Additionally, in May, Kildee secured federal funding to support University of Michigan-Flint research to reduce childhood violence and improve the health and well-being of local children.
