Westwood Heights Schools Education: 1,907 students were enrolled in schools in 2022-23 school year

There were 1,907 students enrolled in Westwood Heights Schools in the 2022-23 school year, 3% more than the previous year, according to the Michigan Department of Education.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 52.4% of them were girls, and 47.6% were boys.

Data also shows that most of the students were African American, representing 80.8% of the Westwood Heights Schools total enrollment.

Westwood Heights Schools covers five schools within Genesee County with its main office in Flint. Among them, Academy West Alternative Education recorded the highest enrollment of 601 students in the 2022-23 school year.

Overall student enrollment in Michigan remains below pre-pandemic levels, white students experiencing the largest decline at 6.5%.

Academic performance has also suffered, with the state's average NAEP score dropping by 6.5 points and ethnic achievement gaps widening. Black and Hispanic students' average math proficiency dropped by 7% in 2022, to 13.5% and 28.2%, respectively.
