State Rep. Mike Mueller recently honored 911 dispatchers by declaring April 15-19 as Public Safety Telecommunicators Week in Michigan. In a resolution, Rep. Mueller, who is a retired law enforcement officer, emphasized the crucial role played by these professionals in the emergency response system.

Acknowledging the significance of 911 dispatchers, Rep. Mueller stated, "911 dispatchers are the lifeline between the public and emergency services, handling difficult and traumatic situations with professionalism and compassion." He commended their ability to manage high-stress situations, communicate effectively, and multitask under pressure.

The resolution also highlighted the specialized skill set required of public safety telecommunicators, including strong communication skills, active listening, quick decision-making, and emotional stability. It recognized the dedication and exceptional service of these professionals who serve the community 24/7.

Rep. David Martin, R-Davison, also expressed his gratitude towards public safety dispatchers, calling them true first responders. He stated, “I’d like to share my deep appreciation to public safety dispatchers in Michigan for their dedication and service.”

National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, established in 1981, provides an opportunity to celebrate and thank telecommunications personnel for their commitment to public safety. President Clinton officially designated the second week of April as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week in 1994 as a way to honor these essential workers.
