State Representative David Martin (R-Davison) has announced that the recently approved state budget includes $4.4 million in funding for road repairs in Davison. The funds are designated to ensure that local streets affected by upcoming water system upgrades receive full reconstruction, rather than only temporary repairs.

The City of Davison is proceeding with an $11.7 million project to improve its water system, funded through USDA-Rural Development. This initiative will replace old and undersized water mains, upgrade the water treatment plant, and repair the storage tower to comply with state drinking water standards. Federal funds will address pavement repairs where water mains are replaced, but many of these roads are already in poor condition and require complete rehabilitation.

“This funding will allow Davison to complete these projects the right way — fixing the roads and the water system at the same time,” Martin said. “Without this support, the city would have been left with a patchwork of repairs that would only make things worse down the road. By working together, we’re delivering safe, reliable water service and smooth, safer streets for Davison residents.”

The $4.4 million allocated by the Legislature will pay for improvements on 12 residential streets that do not qualify for federal road funding. By combining road and water work into a single project, officials expect to reduce maintenance costs over time, improve safety, and limit disruptions for residents.

“This is a smart use of taxpayer dollars that will save money in the long run while improving quality of life for the people of Davison,” Martin said.

Martin also pointed out that beyond this local initiative, lawmakers approved nearly $2 billion in additional statewide funding for local roads as part of the new budget. He stated this investment aims to help communities across Michigan carry out much-needed infrastructure upgrades in coming years.
