CITIZENS FOR JOHN CHERRY: Kennedy on reversing lame duck cuts to schools

4

Citizens for john cherry issued the following announcement on Oct.16.

The House Appropriations Committee voted to approve House Bill 4125 this morning to increase the percentage of income tax revenue dedicated to the School Aid Fund beginning in fiscal year 2020, reversing cuts made along partisan lines in the final hours of lame duck in 2018. The bill is expected to restore $170-$180 million in annual funding to the School Aid Fund. In response, state Rep. Sheryl Kennedy (D-Davison) issued the following statement:

“While most Michigan families were asleep, lame duck Republican legislators rammed through a bill to strip millions of dollars from our children’s classrooms in the final hours of the final day of session in 2018. Today, I’m proud to say that we have taken our first real steps to right this grievous wrong by restoring the funding stolen away from our schools. We still have a long way to go before teachers and administrators have the resources they need to provide our children the world-class education they deserve, but I believe we’re finally moving in the right direction.”
