State Rep. Mike Mueller (R-Fenton), serving the 51st District, announced on his Facebook page that he toured the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan, which serves 22 counties and works to help alleviate hunger. Working with Hunger Relief Partners, the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan distributes nearly 29 million pounds of food every year.
The Food Bank serves more than 51,000 children and 40,000 seniors, with a total number of 197,960 residents experiencing food insecurity. Mueller stated that volunteer shifts are available at the Hunger Solution Center Monday through Saturday every week. Volunteers have the responsibility of preparing food for shipment by packing and sorting. The volunteer team comprises more than 6,900 people, who can help sort enough food for 355 people in one hour. To get involved, contact information can be found at Food Bank of Eastern Michigan.
