The deadline to complete the 2020 Census has been pushed back to Sept. 30, a release issued this week by ABC12 News in Flint said.
The U.S. average response rate as of Aug. 13 is approximately 63.4%. Most counties in mid-Michigan are well above that average. Counties with the most participation include Bay, Genesee, Midland, Saginaw and Shiawassee counties.
The Census is held every decade. The data determines how many representatives each state is allowed to have. The numbers also determine how billions of tax are spent.
"Your response helps to direct billions of dollars in federal funds to local communities for schools, roads and other public services," the Census 2020 website said. Additionally, "results from the 2020 Census will be used to determine the number of seats each state has in Congress and your political representation at all levels of government."
Residents who still haven't completed the Census can do so by visiting the Census 2020 website here.
