The City of Saginaw is ready for another fabulous 4th of July celebration and we want to ensure it is a safe and entertaining day for all. We’d like to remind Saginaw residents of the activities they can enjoy this weekend and a few other guidelines to make the holiday safe and enjoyable!

• Flag Raising: Saginaw Area Fireworks will be raising its 80’ x 50’ flag again this year on Monday, July 4 at the Andersen / Court Street Bridge at 10:00 a.m. Volunteers who would like to assist with this massive display of patriotism should be at the bridge at 9:30 a.m. Volunteers will also be needed at 4:00 p.m. to lower the flag.
• Saginaw Area Fireworks. End the day with a Saginaw tradition as the night sky fills with spectacular colors during the Saginaw Area Fireworks at Ojibway Island. The show, beginning at approximately 10:15 p.m., will ignite the sky over the Saginaw River and Ojibway Island. Visit https://saginawareafireworks.com/ for more information.

If your 4th of July plans include a celebration at home, the City of Saginaw reminds residents to be safe and use good judgment when handling fireworks, including ground and handheld sparkling devices. Fire Marshal Derron Suchodolski cautions residents, “Be safe and avoid firerelated injuries and fire-related destruction of property. Even sparklers should be used with caution, as the average temperature may exceed 1,200 degrees. Have a backup plan with a

charged water hose or bucket of water in case of an emergency. Let's make this 4th of July a fun and safe holiday. Remember, alcohol and fireworks do not mix.”

Residents are also reminded of the City’s revised Pyrotechnics and Consumer Fireworks Ordinance which only allows for the use of consumer fireworks during the hours of 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. June 29 through Monday, July 4. The City of Saginaw Fireworks Ordinance prohibits the use of any consumer fireworks or pyrotechnics with the exception of the following: flare guns; low-impact fireworks, including ground and handheld sparkling devices; and novelties, to include cap guns, flitter sparklers in paper tubes not exceeding 1/8 inch in diameter. Violators are subject to a $1,000 fine.
