FLINT—Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-08) issued the following statement encouraging veterans to apply for benefits under the PACT Act—legislation he championed to expand access to health care and benefits for veterans exposed to burn pits, Agent Orange and other toxic substances—before August 9.
“An important deadline for veterans to receive health care and benefits through the VA is fast approaching. Under a new federal law, veterans who were exposed to toxic substances in the line of duty can receive a backdated year of benefits if they file before August 9.
“Last year, I was proud to join my Republican and Democratic colleagues in passing the PACT Act—historic legislation to provide generations of veterans, and their survivors, with the care and benefits they’ve earned and deserve.
“To any mid-Michigan veteran who thinks they may be eligible but has not yet applied, my office stands ready to assist in filing a claim with the VA.”
